1. How often should I shampoo and condition my hairpiece?
Shampoo your hairpiece once a week if you are wearing it under normal conditions, however if you are exposing it to excessive dust and dirt on a daily basis, have an oily scalp, or perspire more than normal, it may be necessary to shampoo more frequently, maybe twice a week.
2. Does swimming in a pool have an effect on a hairpiece?
Before swimming in chlorinated water, it is a good idea to apply some light conditioner to the hair. Wet the hair and apply a small amount of light conditioner to the hair, but do not rinse the conditioner out! After swimming, shampoo the hairpiece thoroughly and then use a conditioning treatment.
3. What about exposure to excessive heat with synthetic hair?
Avoid exposure to high temperatures, such as the outrush of heat from an oven, barbeque grill, or fireplace. Intense heat will cause the synthetic hair to singe and cause permanent non-reapirable damage to the hairpiece. Use your judgement.
4. Can I use a blow dryer on my synthetic hairpiece?
DO NOT USE HOT AIR! If you have to blow dry your synthetic hairpiece use the "Cool" setting and keep a minimum of 6" - 12" distance from the hair and move in a circular motion.
5. Can I sleep in my synthetic hair?
If you decide to sleep in with your hairpiece on, use a satin pillowcase. Linen, cotton, falnnel, or polyester will cause friction damage to the hair.
6. What temperature water should I use to wash my synthetic hair?
You should always use cool water to shampoo and condition your hair, using warm or hot water will eventually take out the wave or curl of a synthetic hairpiece.
7. Can I use a curling iron on my synthetic hairpiece to change the style?
NO! We recommend strongly leaving that particular service to a professional hair stylist. Shaheen's uses a special technique to re-curl a synthetic hairpiece which can be done for a minimal charge.
8. How can I guarantee the proper placement of my hairpiece on a daily basis?
We have always recommended that you place the front hairline about 4 fingers from the bridge of your nose. Some clients prefer it lower or higher, but over the last 30 years we have found that 4 fingers from the bridge of your nose most closely resembles a natural hairline.
